Hi Toper I've used that malt before with decent results
my kit allowed me to do 23 litre washes from about 7 kg which gave me an OG of 1080 or so

I've d 3 stripped runs combined for the spirit run gave about 10 litres at 60% or so ready for barrel maturing

Save the tails each time and run with the next spirit run just as the big boys do and the flavours just keep developing

And to our new friend from Sweden sounds like you are on the case sherry in the cask first works really well and even 3 or 4 weeks prior to the spirit going in should be fine. I also put some JD barbeque barrel chips in too

The quantities of grain per wash seem to be what I will be aiming for in my next runs.

To accommodate this amount of grain I am having to modify my mashing equipment by introducing a home-made false bottom and using a far larger bag. I will still need to use a bag because the false bottom will be 'bag protective' rather than 'grain proof.'

Whilst impressed with the 'peated' element in my last endeavour, I feel that the over-all flavour. would have benefited from a higher level of malt in the wash.

To this end, I too will be using a mixture of grain (i.e. peated and unpeated probably 50/50), though I do intend to do a run using 100% heavy peated to use for comparison purposes.

I was impressed with the price of the barrels on the site you gave. Although in US$, when converted they appear much cheaper than an equivalent in the U.K. However, shipping costs could prove a pitfall.

I have 3 batches left to strip,
then i will make the final run in my 60 liter potstill.

My goal is to achieve 20 liter+ and put it in a 20liter keg.
Hopefully it's turn out to be a nice product,
because it's a lot of work in this project.

Admiral toad: great idea with the JD barbecue barrel chips.
My first try with whisky was a failure, I make souer mash, and use the all spirit without proper cuts, then I used to much barrelships. So the taste was to much oak and heads and feints.

Better luck next time they say.
I say, studie harder and do it like the big boys.

I don't want so much peat in my whisky, just a hint. So I hope my grain ratio will be proper.

The price on the keg is the half price included shipping to Sweden, compared to the barrels I can buy from my local supplier in Sweden.
