Cheap Alternative Washes

Many of you new guys were given Turbo Yeast
with your stills on purchase. Many have
stuck with that and thats fine, horses for
courses and all that.
There are some great cheap alternatives.
Vodka Star Yeast, is it a turbo ? maybe not
But very good.
TPW or Tomato Paste Wash approx £4.50 a go
Produces a very good neutral at a cheap price.
Kale Wash, Approx £4 a go my favourite, makes
a very good neutral.
Just three to try all good and cheap.
Any more to add to this list ?

Big fan of kale.
I wonder if you could do an olive oil wash....
Grow the kale and buy fermipan yeast. 18p for yeast and 5 bags of sugar - happy days. [lots of happpy days]

You could add a twist of Popeye for nutrient,
or a twist of Lemming to get the Ph right.

Those Brassica seeds aren't free don't you know.
Add another fraction of a penny to the cost of this proposed wash.

Do we now think that any veg rich in vitamins
would make a good nutrient for a wash ie
Brussels. Boil for the green water.

Kurly kale is easy to grow. Germinate end March. Plant out in May, keeps giving till same time next year. 3 or 4 leaves is plenty for 25l. Its good eating too if you cook.

I took six fat lambs to slaughter today, they spent the summer eating grass.
Now, could you possibly find a cheaper or more throw away nutrient?
Grass, not lambs.
I exclude stinging nettles, cos' they sting.
So tempted to give it a go in the spring.
Maybe not one for those with small gardens and pets?

Nettles would be real good.

Thought of another cheap and good neutral sugar
wash, lentils red lentil wash.

Is everyone just using the allinsons bread yeasts with these ? I found they like real high temps, they are designed to go in an oven after all.

Hi I've used Allison's yeasts and they are good, in the time I've been using them but at £1 for a tub off 125g. so i got a bag off fermipan dried yeast 500g for roughly £3.78, so i started of a TP wash and seems ok at moment so i will see what off flavours i get and compare when it's done.
