Most of the true Turbo packs really do need the carbon in the wash or it can get quite skanky - been there, done that! But only the once

Sorry, just one more..........
What's the use of that carbon I put in with the turbo yeast? Does it need it?[/quote]
This is just my opinion, but if you use a turbo, deal with any off tastes after the distillation, don't compound your problems by adding charcoal to the wash, that will just make it all the more messy.
With questionable results.

Did my first stipping run yesterday on't AirStill and very impressed.
Going to strip it all and save to a demijohn then do a spirit run as described in that excellent how to by AM.

What's the best % I should get with an AirStill?

Highest ABV? That depends on the strength of what you put in it. I'd guess 85% or so, but you are putting yourself and property at risk due to the high ABV charge you would need to be distilling. Flammable explosions are rarely fun.

The percentage falls as the run progresses. Early hearts are probably 75-80%. Is that what you were asking?

I don't understand your question there, there is no best % with an air still.
Follow AM's guide, and you will come out with a drinkable spirit..
May I politely suggest that you do a little more reading,it seems that you have become confused with all the knowledge pouring in your direction,- it is understandable, you go from nowhere to everywhere on this site,in a click of the keyboard.

I ended up with a litre of 55% spirit from 4 litres in the Still, sound about right?
I forgot to take the OG when I started but I know it fermented down to FG1005..
Any guess what the OG would've been? I used a turbo yeast with 6k of cane sugar like stated in instructions and did the first batch to the letter.

6kg of sugar added to 21 litres of water should give you 24 litres of wash at OG 1.090
1.005 isn't anywhere near finished, I keep my VodkaStar washes at 26°C for 7-10 days and they finish close to 0.980, then from a 4 hour strip with some added heads and tails I expect 1.5 litres at around 48%, do that twice then water down to around 30% to go again.

Some guys have said to use 5kg of sugar instead of 6??
Left it 2 weeks and it was dropping clear, maybe the yeast died off?

Thx for the help so far lads.....
Quick question, I've stripped 20 litres for the spirit run but wondering if I need to add conditioner for stage 2 ?
All thinned down to 30% for the run! loving this!!

No need for conditioner with low wines, just for the stripping run.

Quick question...
Doing my first spirit run as I type using AM's excellent AirStill "How To".
I know I collect the first 50ml that's only good for for cleaning fluid but left wondering what do I do with the 250ml of Heads??
