I personally beat the Juniper into a mush.
Other flavourings I am more gentle with.

eattheliving wrote:well that's the first gin bottled.

i had about 4 litres at 70% thinned it down to approx 30% then ran the flavouring through it.

I used the following:

40g juniper
10g coriander
5 strips of grapefruit peel... i didn't have any oranges so i improvised.

i must say that the citrus smell coming off the liquor was great. just need to wait a couple of weeks then taste.

Well guys. Its been in a bottle since my last post and tonight i thought i would give it the first taste test.

You can certainly smell and taste the grapefruit and it ginny enough for me. so i'm happy. also as a guide i asked my son to have a small taste.... he promptly had a taste then necked the rest of the gin in the glass and said..." not bad that" ;D
orange gin next i think.

I crush the botainals the night before, heat my spirit to 40c add botanicals switch off and leave overnight, do my spirit run next day taking out any citrus and do spirit run with botanicals left in. Makes a great gin.
