Boubon chunks
HI all,
spotted a bag of JD boubon chunks ( the ones you chuck on the barby) for £6. Usually a tenner online.
are these the ones you use to flavour your bourbon?

Re: Boubon chunks
I think so. The bag I have says "wood smoking chips" on it and "Made from 100% Jack Daniel's Oak Aging Barrels". In characteristic fit of foolishness, I also bought a bag of the charcoal pellets. But on sober
second thought, realized that is probably not what I want to have in my drink. Maybe someday I will try an experiment...

You can see the woody goodness through the window on the front, not sure the charcoal has the same effect though!

Re: Boubon chunks
Hi Jimmy,
The charcoal does not seem to have the same effect.
I put a handful in a glass of water. They turned to sludge pretty quickly, so I doubt there is any binder in these. That was a couple of days ago. This morning I strained and filtered it and had a sniff and a taste. There was some sort of vague resemblance to JD in the aroma, but the taste... Well let's just say it is not something I'd enjoy in my drink. The chips smell lovely. The pellets will go in the grill this summer. Maybe they will be OK for that.

I've just added a handful to a 2 litre jar and left it weeks - you might be able to get something good with an essence though, maybe see how you like it and if you're not impressed, experiment!

Hey MM,
Don't put that 'essence' stuff near those JD chunks. You'll ruin them!
Have a read on this thread http://www.stillsmart.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=558 and you'll get the picture but you definitely don't want to add anything but your neutral spirit, JD BBQ chips and a little Time!

Man Alive!
Im amazed at the colour and the flavour only after 1 week.
I put orginally about 200-300mls over 100g of chips and the colour/flavour and aroma are excellent.
Ive upped the amount of neutral over them to about 700mls i guess only time will tell...
