Easy Still Carbon Sachets
Hi all. Newbie question.
I have done my first Easy Still distillations. I used one of the little carbon sachets that came with the kit. I used the same sachet for all 4 distillations, discarding the first 5 mls each time prior to beginning the filtering process.
The Q\'s are:
1. should I have used a new sachet for each distillation;
2. if not, can I re-use it for the next wash;
3. where can I get replacements when the kit sachets run out (my brewing supplies shop says they\'ve never seen these and the Easy Still site doesn\'t provide a contact link).
4. if I can\'t get replacement, I would appreciate suggestions as to then what to do.
Cheers.

I used to use 1 \"carbon teabag\" per 25 litre batch of wash - but I\'ve got a Z filter now. So I use Gert Strands instructions on how to \"re-use\" the carbon granules.
Basically you rinse them in boiling water 4 or 5 times as that is supposed to lift/dissolve any of the absorbed components out of the carbon. Then I just put it back into the filter and top it up with fresh granules.
Seems to work Ok and keep me from having to buy new bags of carbon so often....
If you can arrange them in advance ozibrewer, it\'ll be the cheapest way, though they don\'t weigh much so shouldn\'t cost too much to post to Oz......

Hi guys, thks for the responses.
I\'ve now found an E.S. trader in WA who has given me the advice that the little sachets aren\'t really good enough and the filter housing should, instead, be filled with carbon, which he supplies.
So I\'ll be going with that. However, by way of general feedback, my first brew, double distilled with the tops discarded tastes great.
I\'m reely ferry hapi. Sheers.
