Blonde Moment!
ok running my T500 thinking i've got everything in place its heating up nicely then i feel the temp its only 40 mins into heating up and thinking. Turn the thermometer on then think ok get the water turned up a little high to keep the reflux working while everything heats up. At this point i see the water coming out the outlet pipe and i think i know i'll press my thumb over the end and stop the water. As soon as i did this a light bulb went up DONT DO THAT but was too late. Pop goes the thermometer on the outlet with the PTFT tape on and water scooting all over. I'm thinking you fool you knew you shouldn't have done that and you still did lol. I wonder how many other T500 users have done this ?

Re: Blonde Moment!
It is possible to mess up with any still.
Many years ago I managed to blow the column off my then newly built keg still.
Hot wash fountained up,hit the kitchen ceiling, and showered down.
What a mess!
Fortunately the lady of the time was out and it was mostly cleared up upon her return.
It leaves you feeling like a knob, and happy that you escaped unhurt, and trying harder not to mess up again.
The human condition dictates that it probably will....
Robert.

There is no ONE way.

Re: Blonde Moment!
I usually run my t500 in the kitchen and I connect the water to a spigot outside the kitchen sliding door. So I went out and turned on the water and forgot I had the valve wide open and it blew the tube right off the top of the t500 and was shooting water 10 feet in the air. My wife went crazy.
Don't yell at me because I'm a virgin distiller

Ok as this thread had become a confessional.
If you toast your own oak staves in the cooker, they will...
a. Smoke the kitchen out
b. Catch fire and blow the doors off the cooker.
c. Make you feel like right twerp.

Re: Blonde Moment!
I used to set a timer , the sort with push in 15 minute segments,to give a 45 minute warm up on a weekend so I didn't have to wait too long to run when I dragged myself out of bed
Unfortunately one Saturday night after the pub I must have knocked it resulting in an unscheduled boil no coolant and a fume filled house
Was very lucky to get away with that one
Strangely I don't do that anymore !
