I\'ve been recapping on some of my queries over the passed 8 months and Phantom your becoming my Mentor so perhaps you should change your Merit Badge. Perhaps you really are the \"Pub Landlord\" ???

I no ones expert, apart from that, if I was anything like Al Murray, I\'d wouldn\'t be so skint all the time and to have a bird who looks anything like the ones you see \'im hangin around with, now that would be a real fantasy ;-D
If I was any kind of bible basher, then it would be considered "evangelism"! I just like to "spread the word".
If my mistakes help someone else to a good, cheaper job of makin\' a drop of hooch, then that\'s great.
The knowledge should be free for all.............
Well that\'s my view anyway...

All hail Phantom, I agree - but not just him, there are a lot of good people on here who are prepared to give up a bit of time to help out others so all hail the lot of you, bunch of inebriates that you are! :)

The knowledge should be free for all.............

It\'s a "linux" thing.
Why pay for something when you can do just as well for free. Yes, you might have to learn "how to drive it", but even "Jobby" of apple fame understands. OSX is based on BSD which has even lower licencing requirements than linux, but it\'s still a "unix-like" system.
The whole ethos of the free and open source software (a.k.a. FOSS) world is that knowledge should be free. Hence my earlier comment.
With this "hobby" the only people who are/would be against it, are those who think that they might have something to loose i.e. HMRC and the distilling industry.
You only have to read about what happened in NZ when they changed the rules/law. There, apparently, was an increase in sales of spirits generally, because of the increase in interest in them. Then again, it does seem that various NZ governments have been more enlightened than anything we\'ve ever had here.....

Dont see much chance of our goverment ever following NZ on distilling law, would be good if they did,I cant honestly see there being a mad rush by the general public to take up distilling if they did as IMO most people would not be arsed to put in the effort and would prefer to buy commercially made spirit.

Yes, you\'re not wrong there.......
Plus doing something like putting a petition on the government website is too much like "putting ones head above the parapet".....

It just seems so bloody silly that we can make as much beer and wine as we want but once the abv goes up its not allowed, perhaps one day alcotec or someone will come up with a turbo yeast that will ferment to 40% abv that would bugger them, perhaps the home brew trade could stick there heads over the parapet?

Problem will be if it ever it becomes legal we will have to keep records because that Bloke Darling with the eyebrows will want the tax.

It takes a bit of digging around to find it, but if you read through the reg\'s at HMRC\'s website (ha, I haven\'t looked for a while, but last time I was "down at the port" it seem\'s that the customs section has now merged with UK Borders Agency - so what they\'re actually called now is anyones game), you start to understand straight away, that it\'s got sod all to do with safety etc, or even food manufacturing reg\'s, it\'s all about "revenue protection".
At the time of typing this, Excise Duty is charged at £22.64, per 1% alcohol, per 100 litres. So if you made 100 litres @ 40% ABV it\'s gonna cost you £2264. Don\'t forget, that spirits is "food", but it\'s also "luxury" food, so it also attracts 15% VAT on the retail price (going back up to 17.5% in the new year).
So as you can see, why, technically, this "hobby" is illegal. It\'s all about the bloody money.
Apart from that, hasn\'t "Darling" worked out that he should do something about his hair ? The black "mono-brow" and white hair, makes him look like a stereotype of an eastern european child molester! :-D

Thats the trouble money makes the world go round, also the MPs have got to have a nice easy way to fund all their exspenses or more correctly fiddles, dont think IMO the vast majority of the population have any respect for any of them regardless of whatever party they are from.
