Hi I've read about re using an ez filter carbon now this one has been used for a 15litre run now I've boiled it on the stove and now baking in the oven to use again ,I've nuked some whiskey blocks on the stove for afew hours and got a really dark colour but it tastes good and will filter it tomorrow and see how it is am a rushing this process or do i let the blocks sit in the jars for awhile?

I don't understand why you would carbon filter a nuked or flavoured product.
Carbon filtering is used to remove flavour.
Which you have just worked to put in.
I sometimes paper filter nuked product to remove sediment.
And after nuking, which is usually done in a micro-wave, up to the boil point two or three times, hence the term, I usually just leave until cold.
If you have had spirit sitting in an uncovered vessel on the stove for a few hours, it is a fair assumption that lots of the alcohol has gone.
Maybe I am missing something here?
Sometimes I merely add green whisky spirit to a demi john, add oak pieces and, leave on a sunny windowcill. And leave for up to, and sometimes over a year.

Robbo12 Are you trying to make an essence? It seems an odd way to do it.

Sounds like you might be a bit confused re carbon filtering. Normally it is done to clean the base spirit before you flavour it.

No i just wanted to get rid of the bits of rubbish left from the whiskey blocks in the jars that's all . Can you recommend a kale wash and also after you have collected the kale liquid what do you do with the kale do you put it in the fermenter or just throw it I'm new to ok this and looking to learn so any help would be appreciated thanks.

I will be gentle and say you are all over the place mate Slow down - it will all make sense.

The kale recipe (in the recipes section) Works well either with just the juice or leaving the kale in. Removing it before stilling of course. Do you know if you have hard water or soft water? Have you fermented stuff before (wine or beer)?

A Carbon filter is not for getting that bits out of a nuke whiskey - use a coffee paper. All face flannel. (no really)

Nuke means microwave it does not mean stovetop - all that will achieve is boiling off the alcohol. You need a covered glass vessel in the microwave (the 1 litre clip top jar works well but remove the wire). Once finished, it normally takes three runs, you remove the blocks before bottling. The whole process takes 3 hours. Next day. Filter through coffee paper, carefully decanting the bits that have already settled in the bottom.

I did no it's in the shed i put 2 jars in a pan with 40% abv put a couple of whiskey blocks in each of them put on low heat for 3 hours and when i took them out they was really dark but taested good but i filtered mine which i shouldn't of but they still taested nice.

After nuking anD coffee paper filtering I still get settled out fine dark matter at the bottom of the dJ .........I’ve not tried the flannel/microfibres cloth option.....will this catch that?

If it doesn't, leave it to settle and siphon.

Never drink dark matter. Lol

This recipe benefits from a sit to let it combine / mellow / mature for about a week.

It fits also settles out some dark matter (cracking phase) in that time that can be decanted off.

The dark matter gets caught brilliantly in the top corner of a square JD bottle. Chuck it in the ullage and run it next time.

I am inspired to start a brew called "Dark Matter".
Shoot, I should trademark it.
If not it will be in the shops within 12 months by someone else
