Re: Tomato Paste Wash Question
Whimpy,
I am assuming that the OG and FG figures that you are quoting in your post were the figures quoted in the original thread/recipe.
What were your OG/FG figures?
If you were still pulling 92% why did you stop?
Did you choose to stop? or did the still stop producing anything?

Re: Tomato Paste Wash Question
Hi Thanks for the reply..... and you assumed correctly on the gravity my final OG
was around 998 and I stopped collecting because my temp rose from 78.5 to 88 Deg within less than 30 sec and it started to smell like I was collecting tails
Thanks again

Re: Tomato Paste Wash Question
Something doesn't sound right, but as you stopped collecting you'll never know how much alcohol was in there.
If I'd collected so little, I would have ran out the tails and re run the whole lot again, even if it meant cleaning the condenser to get rid of the tails stink.

Re: Tomato Paste Wash Question
I currently have a TPW settling out. I haven't got a clue what the OG & FG figure are because I need to get hydrometer. I followed a slightly different recipe and made 18l up. When it has been distilled as per AM Guidelines I will add the post. I'm only new to this as well so I am learning as I go.

Re: Tomato Paste Wash Question
Completed my strip runs.
I had 18 - 20 litres of wash (TPW) and approx 1.2 litres of tails from SS Tripled distilled.
I have just completed 5 strip runs and now have around about 7.5 litres at 35% abv.
This will be cut down to 30% to give 2 spirit runs of 4 litres each.
I will let you know what the final score is when I have completed both spirit runs.

Re: Tomato Paste Wash Question
Hi Wimpy64,
I have completed my first 4l spirit run with the following results:
50ml Fores
150ml unusable Heads. (Stored for head run at later date)
100ml usable Heads. 73%
1000ml Hearts. 64%
200ml Tails. Didn't check just stopped collecting when output dropped to 30%. Tails (wet cardboard / musty smell) very prominent on last collection of 75ml.
Hope this gives you some feedback to compare your output.

Re: Tomato Paste Wash Question
2nd spirit run.
50ml Fores.
250ml Heads.
800ml Hearts. (65% abv)
400ml Tails. (Collected down to 30%)
I'm still learning the cut's and their aroma's.
I am a lot happier with the spirit quality I got from this run than the previous.
But as stated previous here are 2 sets of figures I got from my first TPW for comparison.
I was advised by one of the other (Frank I think) that the TPW gets quite "funky" on the nose when you get into the tails. No kidding, I personally think that the TPW is easier to detect than the Turbo's.
