Hi all ive got an air still used it a few times but not happy with the off flavours ,so im ditching the turbo yeast and trying out the Birdwatchers (TPW - Tomato Paste Wash)
Sugar Wash Recipe
how long for the fermentation process and what sg should i be aiming for start and finish ?
also how long should it take for the wash to clear ?
should i draw it off from the sediment as soon as it stops fermenting ?
also is it worth using bottled spring water ?
#sorry for what might seem obvious to some but like i say ive only used the turbo packs with carbon ect.

Why not really get daring and dump the TPW for kale. It's superior....

Hi mate and welcome.
Not all Turbos are a bad thing.
Have you been stripping, then spirit running with judicious cuts?
This can usually produce a decent spirit, esp. if no carbon in the wash is called for, as with a Turbo such as Vodka star.
There is a greater wealth of information to be read on this site than I have time to try to advise you upon here.
If you have spare Turbo yeast sachets, use them, carefully.
If you don't, consider something different.
This site's members seem to prefer Kale and Lentil, as nutrients, others favour Tomato paste
But basically sugar+yeast+water+nutrient = alcohol.

Many thanks for the info.not been taking off any of the first spirit at all just have been collecting 700ml as per the instructions ,should i only use half a sachet of the turbo yeast and no carbon ?and then when distiling draw the fist 50 ml off ? i only have 1 lot of turbo yeast left then its onto a new start with the recipes on here.

There is a lot of info about taking cuts on here. Everything that comes out is not 'best' alcohol.

There's a v good guide on here that shows you how to identify & make the cuts.

Firstly your Turbo question.
Can I suggest running whichever one it is with only 5Kg sugar and 25 litres of water?
And if they include carbon, throw that away!
Your wash will finish faster and cleaner.

ALWAYS strip run and spirit run = double distill.

Secondly try these two for basic Airstill advice;

All three offer very good advice.
When you have enough experience to argue with them, you no longer need them

is using the turbo pure yeast should i only use 6kg of sugar and 25 l of water ?

Packapoo mentioned kale wash, its brilland easy.
Also very cheap and will produce the best neutral
(vodka base) of all. 25ltrs water 5kg sugar, 100g
Kale and half tin Allinsons bread yeast, thats it.
Cost approx £3.75. Put two washes on and you can
play for hours and have enough good booze to bath in.

Garden centres have it as small plants at the moment.
Grow some. Dead easy. Just one plant, maybe two, will keep you in business.
Will grow in a pot.
