Pugi Rum/pugirum

Have looked thru the rum thread here, gives scant reference to this so I was wondering if anyone is familiar with it ???

The How-To can be found on any number of distilling sites or simply be Googling pugi rum.

Most curious as to how Pugi does his cuts on his spirit run, particularly when having run thru and set aside the tails, he goes on to collect what he calls 'rum oils', for subsequent and vital later use.
His still tails at 50 - 40% ABV. Rum oils run 40 - 20% ABV.

I can't say I've ever experienced this so clearly have a lot to learn.
Or would I only be chasing a myth... :-\

My time is constricted currently.
Can't even spare enough to read up. I will re-visit as time allows.
Looks to be worth a read before a dissing.

Robert.

@ Pack. The individual you are referencing will be talking about fusil oils, which show up in the lower end of a run. Many a rum distiller feels that the bulk of their flavour is originated there. But how much works and how much is overkill.

Now I will look it up.

Thanks RJ.

It had occurred to me that may be what he was referring to - I've had trouble with those from time to time and don't really aspire towards more....

I have seen on line though, where recovery of fusil/fusel oils are a worthwhile adjunct of whisky distilling too :o

I've alluded elsewhere that it seems (to me) that often folk overlook fore shots take-off, lumping them in with heads. Now here we have an advocate for splitting tails :-\

I've done this. The late tails do have an oily appearance when held up to the light. I am less convinced that I actually like the flavours.
