Ok what got me playing about with turbo yeasts is 1: I’m after the perfect turbo wash and 2: I’m a tight git and feel a bit peeved that Alcotec discontinued there cheep Alcotec gold yeast.
I did two washes with Alcotec 48 one 6 kilo of sugar, one 8 kilo of sugar after finishing them of both the same both filtered the same everything, the 6 kilo sugar wash was vastly superior the 8 kilo which adds up to what they say on home distiller site so maybe the answer is less sugar for a better spirit.
Well figures crossed this was my try at a wash that didn’t need carbon filtering I used 4 kilo of sugar and a quarter of a bag of 48 yeast, it struggled a bit but after 9 days it was finished @990 After putting it through the SS reflux I tried it with out filtering and it still had that taste and smell that we all know ever so slight but there and needed filtering, but was faultless after filtering.
Considering it still need filtering it was a lot if time and effort for not a lot of spirit so as I type this I have 2 washes on 5 kilo of sugar in each with a third of a packet of Alcotec 48 in each bubbling away nicely which technically should be better that the 6 kilo wash and as good as I can get it while still getting a reasonable quantity of spirit.
If anybody has any other ideas please tell.
