Jack Daniels cracked at last
Well guys after many months of trail and error in search of the holy grail - an almost identical replica of JD. I have cracked it.
I tried all the essences, the Still Spirits JD chips which in the bag smell beautifully of JD but alas don't really come close on flavour. I have tried the Still Spirits bourbon chunks and the B&Q original JD barrel chips for BBq's all with not what I would be happy to call successful results.
What I would call "close but no cigar"
Well I am proud to say I have come up with a blend that I am happy enough to stop looking any further but unfortunately does come at a cost.
Forget what the instructions state and get yourself a large bag of Essencia Bourbon Chunks 500g they are about £15.00 but can be used twice.
Place all the chunks in a container with just over 3 litres of neutral spirit (vodka)and allow to soak for 6 days, shake/stir daily
After 6 days it will have taken the exact colour of JD and will have similar notes.
No matter what you do you will not get it to take on the distinct JD note you will be looking for apart from this method.
You now filter through coffee filters and place back into container, you should have 3 litres if you started off with just over 3 like I advised, the excess is now soaked into the chunks.
By the way don't throw the chunks away you can repeat the process though now you must leave for at least 2 weeks or more to get the same flavour.
Now for the secret ingredient, shop around but this week Asda had the best deal, 70cl JD for £15.00 - you will need 2. I know its cheating a bit and I did say there would be a cost. Add these to your 3 litres and stir, now transfer to bottles.
Drink on its own or with a splash of coke and ice - enjoy I think its spot on
Yes it cost's just over £10 a litre all in but hey it now retails at £30 -£35 per litre and I am very very happy with the result.
By all means if you come up with a better recipe please let me and the other JD lovers know how you do yours
Peace!
