Drawing of new column.

Ok...first of all I ain't no draughtsman...and the following plans were drawn up on Open Office Draw....so be kind I can't handle rejection...I'll stand in the corner and sulk. :D :D

I decided to draw up this new column so that I can see what I'll need in clamps.

I have 1500mm of 76mm..so I could go with 3 x 500mm....or 2 x 750mm.

The column on the right will be modular...easy to store away...along with the new head I will make following Myles info.
The column on the left has my 2x4x2 torpedo along with sections of the new column
with whatever I want to put on top... :) topped with the new head??

Also I'll be able to use my 2" pothead I made just as a stripper if I need to.

Here's the drawing...so if you can see anything that won't work..shout up ;)

I can't open that image, possibly because I am in UAE and they block all sorts of stuff.

I've saved as a jpeg....but the site I've used will only show as the above link.. .will have another go today..

Ok photobucket wouldn't play ball yesterday....seems ok now...it has cropped a little off the right side....only text saying which size clamp.

Is this a security thing - it works for you because it is your picture?

Could well be Mash...not used the site before, maybe you have to open to the public...never mind back with good old PB.

Hi Ice

Is there a particular reason for the gate valve not being on the horizontal arm opposite the reflux coil?

If it's where you've shown it at the bottom of that downward section, the section will flood during full reflux.

Also where is the opening to prevent any pressure build up?

Cheers A...

I asked Myles in my "head build" post the same question about the valve..it's because the gate valve gets hot...he said there's a small amount of pooling but not worth the worry.

My drawing (somewhat crude)..does show it a fair way down...but on the build I'll put it closer to the top elbow. ;). This drawing is just to help me get my head around the correct number of flanges that I need to buy.

Then I thought I'll stick it up for anyone that may notice any faults.

The vent will be there on the left side of the shotgun...just didn't show it on the drawing. ;D

My valve is where it is for convenience, I can't reach right to the top.

Even if you do get a bit of pooling just chuck it in with the heads.

Duplicating this here Ice, for the benefit of others. The reflux return has a vapour lock inside the column.

You may have already realised that. I have seen some of these done with a loop outside the column similar to what you might use on a pressure gauge.

I seen the loop ones....I was thinking maybe go with the loop...but now I will have to take a closer look at this drawing..

If you are using a reduced branch T to make the reflux return into the column, soldering the elbow inside isn't too difficult.

There is plenty of room to fit a 15 mm elbow even if you use end feed fittings. Even easier if you use a solder ring elbow.

Just remember that you need to drill or file out the depth stops in the branch.

The reflux return pipe size??? 10mm???

Reduce to 10mm from the RC, then 10mm back to the column along with a 10mm valve.

By jove I think I've got it... :D :D

It all depends how you are going to join back into the column.

If you are using a reduced branch T then it will probably be 54/15/54, but if you are using some other method it can be 10 mm if you wish.

For ease of assembly though I would go back into the column in a 54 mm section and have the reducer above that. Trying to go into the 35 mm might be a bit tight for space.
