Pimms clone

Postby billmcc » Thu May 15, 2014 10:10 am

Hi all a new essence out from still spirits

Top Shelf Summer Cup No.1
(Wineworks description)(love brewing)
Summer Cup is based on a Pimm’s style drink. It's great with soda, lemonade or sparkling water poured over lots of ice and mint.

Anyone tried it yet if so what do you think.

Funny that you should ask,- spotted this, thought of summer and had one delivered today.
Just waiting for the Essencia to do it's work and will mix it up.
I'm hopeful,and will report back.

Instructions say
Mix this essence with 100g of sugar and 1.4 litres of 40% ABV distilled spirit or vodka.

Top up to 2.25 litres with water and stir to dissolve.

Makes 3x 750ml bottles @25abv
let us know how it turns out please
Cheers

Thanks for that Bill,I neglected to read the instructions, and treated it as all other SS Top Shelf essences, missed the sugar and dilution ratio!
Will sort it out tomorrow,as it involves some number crunching,as I simply poured 1/3rd bottle of essence into 75cl of 40%.
My bad,Your good,thanks,-may help with a better evaluation.....

OK,what can I say?
After getting the proportions right, and sampling tonight in a classic English mix of 1/4 spirit,3/4 lemonade, a few leaves of mint, some slices of cucumber and orange, can I tell the difference from the £18/litre product in the shops?...NO,I can't.
I expect to be buying more of this one to entertain people over the summer.

Another hit for me was the SS Topshelf Ouzo,-took me right back to being in the Greek islands in 1982,- I am now looking forward to trying the SS Pastis;and to think, only a short while ago that I gave up on essences.

I guess it comes down to the product that you are chasing; if it is one that is usually diluted/mixed,then essences possibly have their place.
Different strokes for different folks and all that.

This is why I like them, as I dont drink neat alcohol (though the honey bourbon on ice I actually loved)

Once its with a mixer they generally are pretty much spot on.
