Edging strip, would it work??.

Postby Icefever » Sat Nov 16, 2013 10:07 am

I don't want to run before I can walk with this "hobby", and I'm looking forward to this afternoon when I get to have a go at a spirit run for the first time.

I've been reading up on making a reflux still, maybe after xmas. I have some stainless pots from my beer brewing. They all have lids on them, but when I've seen youtube vids on making a still the guys use flour putty to seal the lids. Some vids are really weird with house bricks as weights.

Well I use food grade silicon pipe when brewing and this got me thinking. While on another forum on beer a guy on there found this site for edging strip...Link here

I'm wondering if this strip would do the job of sealing. If a couple of clips were fitted to the pot to snap shut, like that fitted to a thermopot.
I tried to be normal once, worst two minutes of my life.

As the strip is food grade, temperature tolerant, and is used pre-spirit, I don't see a problem with it.

Yes,I believe your choice could work,
Consider this,my own choice for a gasket, extruded personally.
HA6 aquarium sealant.
Check the specs, online:it ticked all of my boxes.
Seems to do the job, have used it often now.
Trying to help,hope I have.

Have you used HA6 on a pot??, because it states that it's a Silicone Adhesive & Sealant. Would it not glue the lid to the pot??, you'll need to take the lid off to fill, or am I looking at it wrong?

Extrude to one surface, allow to set, hard.
You can, with a saliva wetted finger, reshape, before it sets.
Stuck and ready to work.
Simples.Works for me.
