There's a small corner shop in my town that still sells bags of warm home made parched peas, their a delicacy round our way

I've made Tarka dal Chuck when I do an Indian meal....but different pulses, yellow slip peas are not marrowfat peas which are used for..mushy peas.


AM +1 with the salt & butter....also a dash of white wine vinegar...

Anavrin I've know of parched peas for years but never got around to trying them..

Where I was born,Nottingham,mushy peas are traditionally and tastily served with Mint sauce.
The annual local Goose Fair,(big event) used to boast many stalls selling mushy peas,with help yourself mint sauce.
These days I favour plain malt vinegar,battered fish and just sometimes,a few chips,(fries to non-UK people).
It remains,for me a traditional Friday night supper.
Although these days I HAVE to cook it myself.
In the Midlands it still seems possible to find a chippie that has the old options of, gravy,curry sauce,baked beans or mushy peas.
Get yourself inside the M25 or North of Gretna,and you lose that take-away culinary delight.
I cannae fry fish like my favourite chippies,but it doesn't stop me trying.
