Earlier this week I started hunting for copper pipe for my boka still and couldn't believe the cost so thought there might be an option to get it from a scrap merchants. I didn't get any 2" so I bought brand new but I ended up with 1.5m of 4" copper pipe for £20. Bargain. If you have a build coming up, make the call and see what these guys have.

Well done Devon...the Aussie guys go to the scrap yards a lot as they say copper is mega bucks over there. Mind you I haven't bought copper in ages here...what did the 2" cost??.

It is a good way to pick up material, although, just a warning, or, something to think about. If you can try and find out where it has come from and what it has been used for previously. A small amount of something less than desirable that has leeched into said copper could ruin your whole week.

the 2" was just over £50 and that included delivery (which was an interesting sight)

I was very lucky to get that 4" piece as they told me that they were about to cut it up, and were previously cutting up 2" and 3"

I did check the piece out visually before I bought it to see if its something that I could use and it just looks dusty, and no dents.

It seems every scrappy I went to wanted to know what I needed it for, and because I have a small brewery set up I said it was for there.... big mistake, that attracted attention and he wanted to know what kind of beers I make.

Good call.

Never thought of it before. And I am all for a bit of bottle bank dipping and skip diving.

The only problem with http://www.jtmplumbing.co.uk/pipe-fitti ... 219mm-c174 is that single lengths of pipe get a postage label stuck on them,no end protectors, and often arrive banana shaped.
Still my go to place for new copper.

Robert.

Basically, you’ll be paid for amounts of copper contained in each unit. I guess you have the highest chances to make a profit with copper pipes, as copper prices seem to be more or less stable over the last year. You just need to find a reliable scrap merchant that would offer you a reasonable price for your scrap stuff. Try your luck at http://metalscraps.co.uk/news-10-tips-t ... ler-9.html where you can find some useful tips on scrap trading operations, check a list of available scrap dealers, and find out the average prices on scrap products. :)

You seem to be missing the point that previous posts refer to buying from a scrap metal dealer, and not selling to one ???
