Hi all, I’m looking a for a wee bit of advice as this has never happened to me before, I have a 21litre sugar wash made with Vodka Star fully finished at Sg 990 ready to be run, now my nephew has decided recently he wants to be involved so he had made up his own sugar wash and without my knowledge added 4 teaspoons of Young’s wine yeast to what he thought was his own wash but actually was my finished Sg990 wash!!!!! Don’t ask how it happened but needless to say I’m not best pleased but the question is - is my finished wash only for the drain or can I still run it or will it taste terrible?? thanks guys in advance and yes the young man in question has had a good talking too (and I’ve fitted a lock to the door!!) but more importantly he’s learned!!!!

4 teaspoons are not worth you worrying about....check your SG and see if any difference with your original SG.
Can you see any activerty, bubbles in your wash??? as your wash had finished the alcohol may be too high for the yeast to get a foothold, if it has started a new ferment just let it alone for a few days and it'll use up any yeast and add more likker than you had.
Don't panic Capt Manwarring......

thanks Icefever, I’ve got a family party coming up soon and needed a wee drop of the magic juice!! It happened yesterday evening as of this morning I could see no activity in the airlock so maybe I’ll just hang on a few days before I run it through,(I’ve got the wee heater on and the temp is a constant 23/24 degrees) I think my main worry was that the yeast would taint the taste but you’ve settled me down....we are a jumpy bunch at times >:D

Yup just ignore it.
Even when a brew might be finished but there was still yeast in it anyway.
Might be worth racking it off after leaving it to chill for a few days.

@No32. As your wash has reached 0.990, the yeast you added will be killed off due to the alcohol content. So no worries.
If the wine yeast was for a high alcohol wash, still no worries as the sugar has been exhausted, sono action.
Dont stir. Make sure is has settled. Rack and run. it should be fine.

Thanks Rumjohn, I racked it off last nite without stirring and got plenty of sediment in the bottom so I’d say that’s where most of the yeast went!, it’s now sitting nice and cool ready for a run!!
