I have the t500, could I just fit the Alembic Pot Still Condenser and use it on the SS lid without having to buy the copper dome?

Yes you can. It's designed to fit on the standard T500 boiler stainless steel lid.

The condenser costs £112....if you intend to use the standard T5 lid...(if you have the tools) can you not DIY a PC?? or look on the Bay there's a guy on there who sells liebigs for around £30/£40....just a thought....may save you a bob or two. ;)

Gin is my wives favourite, so if I double distill in the t500 for a neutral spirit and then use the Alembic Pot Still Condenser what would be the best way to get the best out of the botanicals?

Maybe a smidgen, it would be too small to notice IMHO....and you'll have the copper in the Liebig to help clean the spirit.

I don't do gin...but your going to need a basket...(mash sputnik type) to sit inside the T5 up out of the wash so the botanicals are in the vapour....altho other guys macerate.

Here's an article that might throw some light on gin making.

If anyone has made my old design for a pot head it's easy to convert it to a gin still.
Simple undo the condenser, fit a botanical chamber in it's place and fit the condenser to the outlet of the botanical chamber, simples.

need to put a basket in to suspend your
botanicals above the vapour to get the
infusion to work.
If you look up Sputnik on this forum,
you will get my drift.
On the T500 you could hang it from the
SS nut which holds condenser on.
It needs to be quite a tight fit or all
the vapour will bypass your basket.
Internal diameter on T500 is approx
29cm. This might do.
