Insulation, bottled gas, a Bunsen Burner, with other knick knacks can have a remarkable and economic effect. It isn't a hothouse, it's a mild climate that doesn't drop below about 6ºC at night.

Come April/May, my sowings will be the match of any plants on offer in Garden Centres at a fraction of the cost. I have roughly 800 germinations at the moment.

Hows it going Toper?

My seeds went in this weekend. Its also seems chilli seeds need a propagator - no problem.
On the packet it says 25-30c :o OK so the propagator need some brewing kit then !!

I thought of splitting this thread, then today the last of our most recent snow went,(and that MUST be our last), so I will just hijack and turn it into gardeners corner.

Sowed my Toms and Cues in the propagator in plug cells last week, today potted up to 3" pots.
Found a second propagator,in the garden shed that no-one claims knowledge of, that is/was brand new not so long ago,(gardening pixie magic)!
That was needed for the extra area of pot base.
When the plants are a little bigger it will be worth firing up the vintage Calor greenhouse heater to keep the cold at bay, before planting out to buckets in the PT.

Chilli's? Did them the once, with some success.
The reason I haven't tried again is Aphids.
I deal with these by gently rubbing leaves between finger and thumb.
Not an easy task with many small and spikey leaves.

The greenhouse is bursting at the seams due to potting on, Constant juggling now to harden off whilst avoiding any signs of frost.

Does anyone else use a heated base propagator?
