Alcohol Minimum Pricing
Those of you not living in Scotland have possibly forgotten that from next Tuesday all alcohol sold in Scotland will cost a minimum of 50p a unit.
This should add 5p to a bottle of Hobgogblin, currently £1.25 across all supermarkets here.
It will also add £1 to a bottle of Lidl's Shiraz, one of my current favourites.
I quite like Lidl and Aldi cheap, strong cider.
Currently £1.99 for two litres, that will cost an extra £3.
Guess what I have been stocking up on?
I have a shed nearly full, with BB dates of Feb 2019.
I guess I am going to have to start drinking more spirits?
Is this what the short sighted Scottish Parliament envisaged?
500,000 Glaswegians with Air Stills?
ROTFPML.
Robert.

That wee turd Nicola Kranky and her band of dafty’s really knows how to win the support of a nation. She is defiantly out at the next election.

I can see from the double post how strongly you feel.
As do I.
I have also wondered at the effect this legislation will have upon grass root snp (I can't dignify with Capital letters) support.
The Irn bru drinkers thought she and her party were a ride to easy street.
IMHO ALL politics is shitty,I try to avoid.
On with the party...

Re: Alcohol Minimum Pricing
I have been led to believe that people who are on long term invalidity benefits get an extra £35 a week in benefits if they are alcoholics (possible urban myth), this will really affect them.
As this law will affect the treatment of their illness immensely, will the Scottish dafty State up this benefit to compensate.LoL

Re: Alcohol Minimum Pricing
Am I correct in assuming this won’t affect spirits much as they are already priced above 50p/unit
Everyone will be buying alcohol free or low alcohol beer and dosing it with Vodka lol
Might be a good deal for Home brew shops, I’m sure they will attract some new customers, they’ll be taxing fermenting buckets and airlocks next.

The cheapest 70cl bottle of any spirit will now start at £14.
If they are not making it themselves, where do they get the cheap Vodka?

Look out for convoys driving from Glasgow to Carlisle, as they used to do the ferry run from Dover before the ticket prices went bonkers.

Re: Alcohol Minimum Pricing
My thinking exactly Robert.
When I lived in Edinburgh I regularly went down the A1 to Berwick on Tweed, just took over an hour and the first thing you see is a massive Morrison's supermarket and an Aldi store just down the road. Journey costs about £10 in fuel, and a good day out.
People in my village regularly go along to Gretna Green and Carlisle. So where there is a will there is a way.
This law should not affect pub prices.

Or we will have a lot of new members.
This is just a tax and will achieve
nothing , just more revenue for the
none drinkers (to be polite),
More bacon sarnies thats what I say

Re: Alcohol Minimum Pricing
I wonder what happens with online shopping such as Tesco Wine Direct?
Do Tesco use post code software to add Scotland tax?
I am waiting for the Nicola Endangered Fish/Donald Fart sex scandal to finish them both
Sorry for putting that image into your heads.

I bet you can still buy off Amazon at the same price, you’ll have to experiment with postcodes

Re: Alcohol Minimum Pricing
Don’t come to Aussie then guys, our government already taxes alcohol bad. Cheap price for a bottle of vodka or Jim beam bourbon here would be around $45 or £25 and it’s all uphill from there.
SUCH IS LIFE.
