Attn: Those who have made cachaca. Things have been relatively quiet around here of late, but I would be interested to get some updated feedback on your results with cachaca.

Re: Cachaca - cane spirit
Gidday RJ ! Still got to still my way through at least a 100 litres of plums and quinces before I get around to Cachaca-ing. Went down to the wholesalers to check on the 28 litre bucket full of golden syrup...oh yes my beauty ...
How do you reckon I'll go quality wise using my Still Spirits pot head. 5" x 1" tall with a 1 foot x 1/2" liebig. It makes a passable brandy.
Oh I bet there was a lot of cachaca drunk in Rio last night.

@Mr Four Square. Hi mate. Sorry for the delay. An Aussie mate reckons I was in jail but I WASN'T. Had to run off to America for 5 weeks. Came back to a typhoon and both my computer and phone needed to be replaced. All done now.
I am sure your equipment will work just fine. Just remember that you want the characteristics of the cachaca to come across. And not a clean neutral.
Do all your beer stripping runs. Accumulate the low wine, water down and run again. No packing, no reflux. Do make sure your kit is clean.

Welcome back,once again RJ.
Hoping that stuff moves on for you.
If Lyle's GS doesn't come on offer soon in local super-markets,I'll bite the bullet and go with another Cachaca anyway,it was pretty good!

@Easydrinker: Lyles is not cheap. I use 24 cans in a 90L wash and make 5 washes at a time. So it becomes an investment. Especially since it is all imported into China.
But it sells well at around $30 per bottle.

Re: Cachaca - cane spirit
After reading through this thread i got inspired to make some Cachaca. Popped into lidle and t&l golden syrup was on offer at £1.72 for 907g tin,got myself 12 tins and some funny looks from the lad on the till. Going to have to wait till tom. to start as my local lidle dontstock alinson yeast anymore, they only do some budget yeast that iv'e never heard of before. Like jolly john stated, if its nice i might get a chance to age my bourbon for longer.

Re: Cachaca - cane spirit
@Mashy: No - it does not have to be T&L GS. It should be made from cane juice, but that is seasonal and I need to be able to make all year long. I use T&L because that is what is available here in China.

Re: Cachaca - cane spirit
hmm. Here is the problem, I was given a bucket of syrup. I have no way of telling whether it was T&L or not.
I feel a small batch coming on regardless....

Hi Mashy
I would say if your bucket contents look the same colour as golden syrup, it's the same stuff, I've just read this thread again and quite fancy a go at this, I was eyeing some up in ASDA before but I've just raided Holland and Barrats for molasses, so I've got to do that lot first.

Re: Cachaca - cane spirit
I seems my syrup has gone solid in the cold so gently warming it back up.
Quick Question RJ - What temp do you run the ferment at please? 25-28c
