Rhubarb as botanical?

Postby Moonraker » Wed May 02, 2018 12:34 pm

Anyone tried rhubarb as a botanical in gin? I know there are a few commercial gins available. I've been searching the net but only examples I can find is adding cooked rhubarb and sugar and making it sloe gin style.

Will try some experiments and update here once the garden rhubarb is ready but if anyone's tried it before or has any thoughts then please let me know.

I sort it fits and I can see why - but the flavour (IMO) would be very feint. And for the life of me I cannot recall the flavour of Rhubarb except its tartness.

Keep us posted.

Rhubarb Ginger and Lemon zest infusion.
Makes a lovely flavoured voddie, very good
for loosening knicker elastic. ;D
Rather have a full bottle in front of me
than a full frontal lobotomy

Tried making a gin in the airstill earlier today with rhubarb macerating in the bottom and everything else in the infusion basket. It's an ok gin but not a hint of rhubarb and I don't think chucking more rhubarb in is the answer so will either use an essence or try macerating rhubarb in the gin post distillation.
Think I will try the mascerating route as the whole idea was to use the rhubarb from the garden.

This is an odd one.
To me the smell of Rhubarb is unmistakeable.
The taste is always less so, so unsurprised with others distillation results.
