I know a number of guys on here have bought kit from abroad, as in Still Dragon.
I'm interested in buying from them...so as the title says...what's security like getting stuff for our hobby through UK customs.
Did any of you get any sort of hassle???...we all know we have to keep our heads down below the parapet. :-X :-X

I have bought from abroad...Portugal. I purchased a complete system.

So far as I am aware, there are absolutely no restrictions on importing, buying, owning a complete system or parts thereof.

Any offence occurs only when any such equipment is used for purposes which require prior permission and a licence.

None of us would do this.

I've had two orders delivered, one was a torpedo and the other was a few bits n bobs, no problem with customs, there's also no import tax or UK vat to pay as its from within the EU.

Cheers guys...that's what I was hoping the answer would be... I know the post may sound paranoid, but we have to be careful, I can make up an order now.

Buying from SD Eu,is probably as low key as it gets,in the UK.
There are no import taxes to pay,and the shipping label does not state what is inside the package.
Of course there are certain agencies, and some employees of those, who know exactly what is going on.
At this point in time,no action is being taken,as owning a still is not against the current UK law, merely using one, unlicensed for alcohol production is.
If you are a member or even a guest of this site,DO expect your IP address to be recorded somewhere,by some agency who may at some point in the future come knocking on your door.
Of course, while we remain a bunch of misfits doing a little illicit distilling,we are of less harm to society than some other people that threaten to harm it in other ways.
May it stay so.

Robert.

There is no need to worry, @Icefever. As already has been mentioned, shipping within the EU does not really mean "from abroad", and even with customs handling (when we ship to destinations outside the EU) there never have been any problems, because we do not offer/sell turn-key stills. All items we offer/sell can be distributed freely without restrictions, are multi-purpose and not subject to any reporting. That's one of the great advantages of our modular concept.

As indicated on our website, our company remained closed from 24th December till 14th January due to our extended Christmas holidays. We have received a lot of orders and inquiries in the meantime. Work on clearing up the backlog has already begun. Please allow a few days for resuming normal operation. Thank you for your understanding.
