well in put a classic wash on last thursday and its done....

thats all well and good you might say but its also cleared itself lol???

I'm left with 25 litres of slightly milky wash and its about 990-ish on the hydrometer and I'm baffled as to how its brewed so quick and dropped to the bottom even quicker with no finings being put in it?

has anyone else had this?

al.

Got to say after adding finings best clearance yet and not much froth after degassing

Will run tonight and see how it goes !

In the end wash was a bit hazy running now but not as clean tasting as triple but as CC says elsewhere could be too much sugar at start !

Admiral - I will leave the jars to air (covered with paper to stop bugs\dust but open to air) for 24 hours in the summer when its warm, or 48h when its a bit cooler.

Makes a difference - some stuff tastes okay off the still, but is tailsy a day later, stuff can taste rough off the still but much better after a day or two. You lose a small amount of volume\ABV but is a better product for it - makes it easier to make the cuts too.

Cpn Actually misled you earlier over starting gravity which was 1.105 not 1.150 idiot me so guessing at .980 would be about 17.5% ABV
I do rest alcohol before blending but corked I will try as you suggest thanks again

another observation the small ammount of wash i saved at end of syphon to clear for next batch is showing signs of going crystal clear my conclusion being that bulk of yeast and carbon clears very quickly but very fine haze particles clear much slower than say triple distilled.
i will leave next one longer than 24 hours and see what happens
