Has anyone got experience with the Still Spirits Whiskey Profile Kit. I bought one yesterday to give it a try on my next batch in the next couple of weeks. It comes with a recipe booklet but personal experience would be a big help.

Going to give it a go tonight or over the weekend.

I made up 750ml of the Laphroaig recipe.
It is stupidly good, how do they get the flavour so accurate?

I was going to get one of those kits last time i placed an order,so you will be having a few wee drams tonight Balmoral.
Have you tried the still spirits classic whisky?,i might mix one up tonight if i can find a bottle, think it will be a case of paying a visit to the local bottle bank

Just started a wash so hopefully be trying the kit out next week. I think I\'ll start with the Laphroaig as well, perhaps see if we agree.

The still spirits "classic" whiskey, is what I make up for "give aways". I don\'t like blended type whiskey (my dad does, as do a few mates etc).
They all reassure me that it\'s better than the likes of teachers, famous grouse, etc etc.
It\'s the one that makes 3 bottles and is in a green coloured pack.
I might think about a profile kit though as I don\'t mind a malt!

Tried the Laphroaig and the Jameson\'s. In both cases flavours seemed under powered and slightly sweet. I think I will experiment with the recipe a little. The booklet supplied with the kit does\'nt explain the effect of the profile A, B and C essences on the various recipes. It gives a good description of the other essences provided but not those three.

I have been going through the recipes in the profile kit and have found so far that there is far to much glycerine for my taste, in all of them so far,and the peat smoke seems a bit over powering as well,im going to make a few tweakes next time.Has anyone come up with any good recipes or changes to the recipes in the book?

I\'m wondering if it\'s glycerine thats creating the sweetness that I\'ve found in the ones I\'ve done. Like you i will have to ty a bit of tweaking.

Opus 27 here is one of my little recipe tweakes that i have done with the Glenfiddich recipe which i like and others that have tasted it
whiky profile C 5mls
whisky profile B 1.9 mls
oak cask 1.4 mls
peat smoke 1.5 mls
distillers caramel .5mls
glycerine 4mls
this is for a 750mls bottle and like most it gets better if left for a week or so,i have done one and have got it in a jar with 20grms of bourbon oak chips as an experiment, thats what i like about this hobby of ours to play around with recipes

Thanks Optic, I\'ll give that a try and post the outcome. I like the idea of the Bourbon Chips I use them a lot myself in the SS Bourbon (The Classic Range) and they do give it something a bit special.

Optic,
Tried your modified Glenfiddich, I like it. Can\'t say how it compares with the real thing as it\'s a few years since I tried some so I\'m going to lable it as \"Glenoptich\".

Just done the \"Tulamore Dew\" out of the Profile Recipe Book. The only tweak I made was to reduce the glycerine by 75%. The result is a really nice drinkable scotch. Works well straight over ice.
