Not today, But as I had Friday off, was skint from being out the previous 3 weekends, and had a stupid amount of low wines in storage, I did 3 days on the trot distilling.
Friday and Saturday, each day I tipped a 19L corney of 50% neutral strip (+15L water) into the still for a spirit run.
When doing the strips I must have poured more heads into one container and more tails end stripps into the other. So although the ABV was roughly the same, I had quite a bit more heads on friday but hardly any tails, and on the saturday, half the amount of heads, but hit tails quicker than I'd like.
Over the 2 days, I collected 10L of 95.6% good hearts, + a couple of litres either side of the cut that will be used for macerations (Heads side has a slight sweetness that I don't like in my gin, and the tails sight has a very slight flavour, both are still good and I use both these portions for fruit macerations, and other trials)
Yesterday, I tipped my 30L keg (about 45%)of watered down heads collected over the last year. From this I got about 2.5L of heads (wont be recycled, will be used as solvent or as disinfectant), and 9L of good hearts, and left minimal tails in the boiler.
I now don't want to see the column for a while, bored senseless.
