My first bash at Teddy's fast fermenting vodka finished well before Christmas. It was well de-gassed, but despite having been sat in a bucket for the last two or three weeks it has refused to clear, despite my trying finings.

I followed the recipe, which mandates simmering the wheat bran for a while - I'm now wondering if I've got a bit of starch haze. No iodine to hand, so can't test for it easily.

I don't really want to bung it in the AirStill as is, but it seems a bit of a waste to just chuck it down the sink.

Any thoughts, anyone? I've read that amylase can help..

Just run it. Be fine.

I don't think Amylase helps at this point.
Use Rashig rings or bits of copper,even conditioner or oil or butter if you must,but just run it,don't dream of wasting it.

I'd never describe the wash as clear even when it's finished and had a few days rest. As long as your FG was under 1 and you keep the trub out of the boiler it will be fine. I never see any foam after the boil so its a pretty "clean" wash. I never use fining agents.

If you are worried put the wash in the fridge and it will take all the sediment to the bottom of the barrel but I don't bother doing that unless I have a problem.

@ hampk: Go ahead and run it. The primary reason a "stripping run" is done is to remove color and solids that remain after your ferment.

Sometimes I have glittering clear washes that I can see all the way to the crud at the bottom; sometimes they are as cloudy as FCUK, even if finished fermenting.
I'll dig out the decorating gear,but it won't be needed.

Go for it matey....as Rumjohn pointed out the strip run will do it's job. I've run hazy wash's in the past....let us know how it goes.

Get some bits of copper in the bottom (1p,2p and our short bits of pipe)... But you prolly done that already.

I never fine (anything). But I do rack the crud off.

Puking is nothing to do with clarity. So I am very confident I will not need to get my brush out.

Ok, you guys with your hands on your paintbrushes - relax - as you predicted, there have been no ill effects from running this - thanks for the advice!

The weird thing is the stripped wash also has a bit of a haze, though I'm wondering if that's residue left over from playing with the Sputnik at the weekend..

I may not have cleaned the still head properly.. Tonight's strip run will confirm that as its clean now!

Second wash is stripping clear so it does look like I had some botanical remnants in the top of the still.

Not sure who will get it,but every time I see this post I just have to sing "'Scuse me while I kiss the Sky".
That was a different substance though.
