I'm luckier then you.....Well maybe that's only a maybe.....
They r-soled me back in 2012/13 when I chipped them about their piss poor, frequently ignorant moderation.
Flash of brilliance 2017 and I'm back in.
Thing is haven't missed them in between so not exploring any further.

I simply clicked on the the link, and read it down a few posts.
That would not let me open the file from the original link, but someone had quoted it, and that I was able to cut and paste.
The interweb will be the downfall of us all.

I couldn't see the recipe at the start, but fortunately Robert broke things for us.
Apart from the more controversial cherry, menthol etc, I'm pretty sure allspice and a smidge of ginger and less sugar/post still molasses will take us in the required direction. I'm open to coffee or cocoa but they wouldn't be my taste really.
edit : a friend mentioned liquorice (sp?) but I'd never use this and star of anise at the same time

Cherry Menthol was driving me down that path, but age and location stopped me doing as you did.

Re: Looking for a Kraken Black Spiced Rum recipe!
My mind wandered off after mentions of asda in one thread and nuking essence based neutral with no oak in another and I remembered I have a jar of asda dried mixed spice in the cupboard.
Ingredients are Cinnamon (47%) , Coriander Seeds (20%) , Nutmeg , Whole Cloves , Pimento , Ginger.
I'm not a gin fan, so the coriander makes me nervous, but the rest looks good?

That does indeed sound like an interesting mix.
Short time here and long time gone...
What are you risking?

Robert.
I have 2 major problems within this hobby of ours. One is experimenting when imbibing and the other is not remembering what I did.
I plan in theory on buying in star anise and allspice that I don't have (not sure if pimento is a cherry pepper or allspice in the above mix) and actually taking notes as I try different concoctions. I'm sure I'll fail happily and have to repeat the exercise 5 times

I fall asleep at a keyboard 2 or 3 nights each week.
At some point I wake up and shuffle off to bed.
A constantly full Essencia filter does not help in this process.
Life really is a bitch.

Re: Looking for a Kraken Black Spiced Rum recipe!
Returning to my earlier thoughts on this thread and at risk of sounding crazier than usual, a quick experiment suggests that partly diluting your strong spiced rum distillate with guinness instead of water is one way to go to approach kraken.

I don't claim to be right, but will be interested in other folks experiments.
I was in a pub that is renowned for it's guinness and was reminded of the "late"/aftertaste with good mouthfeel in good guinness that I can never quite figure if it's chocolate/coffee/malt or something else and it reminded me of kraken, so I came home and made something.
