OK I'm in.
Into kale that is....I've been wondering about it for a while now, so I thought it's time to find out for myself.
I've followed in Anavrin's footsteps...add 500ml boiling water..then bring back to a boil for a sec...then liquidize.

Strain into 5kg sugar water, hydro checked hit 1.072.

It's now sitting by the rad in the kitchen next to a very slow sugar wash.

I tried to be normal once, worst two minutes of my life.

there must be an inch or more cap on it already...that's amazing.
I've just noticed the time on the posts, going by it that's 13 mins.

It's a funny old wash this kale one, it drops really slowly but very steadily my first 25litre wash has hit SG 1.000 last week after about 2 1/2 weeks, not checked my second one for a few days but it's probably done the same,

+1
Do you have farty smell yet?
Buffers do not seem to make a difference to the fermentation time. Ready for the freezer soon so I will let you know if the finished neutral is different.

I haven't grown the stuff for a few years as I was the only one that would eat it. Are you only doing this with a white sugar wash or have you tried it as a nutrient in a darker rum wash?

This is the first time for me...must say I'm amazed at the speed it set off at.
I have asked if anyone has used kale in a rum wash?...I have 3 x 7.5 kg of golden syrup and was wondering what the outcome would be.
I've suggested that I do a side by side run to find out.

Re: OK I'm in.
I've just transferred one of my kale washes into the boiler, it cleared fairly well by its self in a week, the sediment was quite compact, had a few visible green bits in it but nothing was suspended in the wash.
@icefever
Not sure if you will need to add kale to GS, I'm sure it ferments dry by its self but I guess it won't do any harm and probably won't affect the flavour, I'll have to check RumJohns Cachaca thread, he won't be happy if you call it Rum without any mollasses in there! lol

I stopped growing this for the same reason. Damned easy to grow though, and seems expensive when I choose to buy it.

I am thinking of growing it this year. Any tips would be welcomed. Does it suffer from butterfly's like many brassica's ?

My experience was that yes, Cabbage Whites love it.
But maybe being a loser leafed Brassica than most,(Exing sprouts, which are an oddity), wiping eggs and caterpillars of it is fairly easy.
Keeping a few old Tennis or Squash rackets scattered around the garden is also a very satisfying way of dealing with them, and getting a little exercise.

Don't worry Robert, I knew what you meant.

I can just picture him sipping on JD faux whiskey and jumping about swatting at butterflies with a tennis racket, er racquet.

Bloody good shot if he can knock them out of the air with the ball mid flight. Do you have a dog to bring the ball back?
