My turn at the Lentil Wash.

Discuss fermentation, different types of wash, etc

That's where it all went wrong ::)

In your original question you posted "Oh, I also wanted to know if you, Ice, are a hot or cold water cutter? chill advocates hot water, aidanmac wants it ice cold."

The "ice cold" ref is what threw me because ice cold water would numb the taste buds and render then useless. What I advocated was the use of normal temp cold water with an eye-dropper and a teaspoon.

My fault. I tend to add superfluous flourishes to my posts just for sport and filigree; and I guess at times they can obscure my facts or meaning. I apologize and thank you again for your help and patience.

OK, That's definitely Vulcan and I'm afraid we'll have to confine you to the brig for a while just so the Klingons don't fart in the corridors in protest :D :D :D

I thought it was Klingon... got it wrong again :D :D

Due to work my wash as been sat in the kitchen looks like it's ready to drop into another bucket, will do that later and then throw some sugar on top of the lentils and see what happens. ;)

Edit...just checked it and the hydro is down to just under 1.000, so that gives me a 10% wash...Image

Those aren't farts...

Klingons drink tails - and have a peculiar vent organ dedicated to the release of the unique chife they produce as a result - in season.

Much like rutting bull elk of the Rocky Mountains, they release this pungent perfume in copious, sticky quantities across their bellies and chests when accosted with the proper stimulus. Specifically, these steamy, green and gooey "piss patches" announce the lonely alien warriors' "appreciation" for the finer qualities of the numerous, off-shift master distillers lingering in the hallways; cheroots dangling with alluring insouciance from their pouty, petulant lips; pallid flesh and coarse black scruff bulging provocatively through the fishnet stockings these worthies affect below-and-beneath their over-stretched, red, vinyl lederhosen - the standard mufti for their ilk aboard NCC-.0098 USS Rhinophyma.

Or, that's what the wiki I "read" on the subject intimated.... heh :-*

Cherry,
I for one look forward to more of your prose, that had me smile and re-read a few times.

Robert.

I even learnt a new word, with the aid of Goggle.

Rhinophyma was once thought to be caused by heavy drinking of alcohol. This is not the case.....
There is no ONE way.

I'm intrigued that the whole "piss patch" concept doesn't seem to be unfamiliar territory for you. ;) The local red deer stags get a little sloppy/stinky in the Fall of the year, too? Or just the Campbells....?

Glad you were amused by the noodlings. There was a time when I paid for books and tuition with what leaked out of my head and drooled onto the page/screen through my fingertips. Many years and brain cells ago. heh

Ok back on track..dropped the finished wash into a spare barrel to clear, it's now outside in the brew house.
Made up another 23 lts water with 5 kgs and banged it onto the lentils left in the first barrel, checked the SG...1.078...spot on. Now we wait to see what happens???, may the distilling gods smile on me when I have to strip 40 odd liters of wash through my airstill... ;) ;)

Nice, Ice! Keep the info coming. I feel like I'm only going to be a couple of days behind you, and I want to follow your tracks while they're still clear. ;D

aidanmac: Och! I hear you. You may be surprised to find that the term "disruptive element" has occasionally been penned next to my name over the years. Don't faint! It's true!

But I've mellowed a lot since then... heh ;D

This 2nd wash on top of the 1st wash lentils and yeast cake has got off to a really slow start...no big foaming head on it like the first one. :-\ I think I'll check it tonight and if it's the same, I'll throw a yeast starter into it.

Beej! Oh thou of irresistible elan and all-encompassing amity! Favor us with updates on your washes plebibroma. I enjoy them muchly!

*Note for the wordies: "plebibroma" is a newborn yidakiism set before you on an ancient plinth. Theobroma you may recognize from "theobroma cacao" - the scientific name for chocolate. It comes from combining the Greek roots theos (gods) and broma (food), hence chocolate is "Food of the Gods." Plebi is the plural of plebe; and if there is a food that is more representative of the common man than lentils, I know it not.

How's that for a view into my mind through a "lenticular" lens. :D
