Had the opportunity to have a few store bought Jim Beam drinks last night.And oh my god,it tasted like shit!!i used to drink it a while ago before moving on to JDs,but i havent tried genuine Jimmy for a while.Now im not a snob but i just couldnt believe it...i totally prefer my own drink to that stuff now...dont get me wrong though,i did have several more after the first,haha...i am dropping off a bottle of my own so thedy can try something else.

Made a SS top shelf aussie gold rum up for a mate-9/10 he reckons.

Have made a coconut rum up,try it in a week or so.

ss aussie gold rum is brilliant 9/10

Tried the coconut rum,and compared to the real thing.Very very very close.10/10

I dont think some would even tell.

@ marc83 - So far, of the \"bourbon\" type flavourings (both Kentucky and Tennessee Sour Mash), lots of them come out \"Ok\", but the one that seems closest to the commercial equivalent is the SS Classic Tennessee Sour Mash - the one that comes in 2 sachets in a cardboard wrapper (coloured black). That\'s pretty close to the original JD (originally my fave tipple). The SS Classic Kentucky Bourbon (again, the one in 2 sachets etc etc) is also pretty close to JB!
@ Opus 27 - most of the brandy i.e. traditional brandy, type flavourings aren\'t really much cop! The one that I\'ve tried and seems to get the closest, is the SS Classic VSOP (plastic sachets, card wrapper, colour beige/brass looking.
It still doesn\'t seem to get anywhere near a \"good\" brandy (sure, I know \"good\" is relative - and I\'m a bit of a snob, having had the opportunity, many years ago, to taste a number of excellent, vvv expensive (right place, right time) cognac\'s and armagnacs, of the two, I\'m an armagnac person). Anyway, the SS Classic VSOP gets a little nearer and to me, is like a half decent \"supermarket\" brandy......
Oh and if you\'re a little adventurous with your brandy, then the prestige brand calvados isn\'t bad either - brandy like, with a distinct hint of apple.....

Had moved onto the SS classic tennassee flavour.Not too bad.Very JD like.Couple of weeks on some chips too and its away.

Just finished a bottle of prestige absinthe 55 pro left it 10 days and wow it is excellent

and it gets better with age after 4 weeks finished the dregs these were even better .....i used the alcotec turbo 48hr with 6 kilo of sugar without carbon ran this thru airstill once. filtered twice and left at 60% abv.

Can highly recommend

Made the Cherry Brandy, 9/10 Very nice, tastes just like the real thing, and without the burn in the wallet, Will make one in every batch for me Great with coke!

Been working through a number of Prestige essences since I found them cheap on Ebay:

99p is pretty good and beyond 5 he drops the postage to 50p and you get a free one for every 5 you order.
Findings so far:

Portsmouth gin is brill - tastes just like plymouth gin

Bombay gin is great - tastes just like bombay saphire

Dry gin is a good every day drink

London Gin was disappointing - prefer the others (shame I bought a load of it)

Malt whiskey is quite drinkable.
As a general comment we are finding that the Prestige Gins are all nicer that the SS ones

Just wondering if anyone has used Top Shelf Italiano (Galliano)? and what recipe you used?

I have tried the Italiano with the recommended base ..found it very refreshing with lemonade and plenty of ice in a tall glass.
