Pest control seems to be all I do at the moment.

One of the rabbit fences needs work... It has been bitten through.
Had a couple of moles, but still on watch.
Rat bait stations need checking.
... And my magpie trap hasn't got started yet. Duff decoy I reckon.

... And people think living in the country is a breeze.

Get yourself a live decoy from a small distance away, it will drive the local birds berserk.
Then you can swap back with the supplier of your bait bird, to help him out.
It works for us.

Sounds like that might be well timed for a trip to Cumbria, Ice?!

Only the mention of moles...I remember as a wee nipper in Yorkshire dad worked on a farm and was given (I think) a pair...not sure if they were real moleskin or just the cloth type :-\

You just can't beat the smell of an all grain brew in the morning. Just got the BM underway. Hoping to be done by lunchtime else I could be in trouble with Mrs mash.

I am running "Old Bernard" (well nearly) looking forward to tasting it already. 8)

Thanks spirits4bb for the recipe!

Well in a moment of madness, i stuck an order in for a
grainfather. Iv'e had my eye on one for a long time, but
i was trying to justify cost against what i need it for.

In my daughters words '' ye canni dae what ye used to dae,
you've got the money, spend it you tight assed old git''

she was right in a way, she does'nt know the half of it.
Admittedly i do tend to move full fermenters a bit slower
these days.

This will give me a chance to get back into A/G beer once
more, as drinking bourbon most nights tend to make the next
day a bit hazy and lazy.

cheers B_D

Well not today, but last week. Only getting round to posting today as I have been on Skye enjoying myself - it's a tough old game ;D

Knocked up a new gin basket from some scrap copper. My existing 2" basket is a bit on the wee side for some of my recipes, and I wanted to be able to do some larger batches on tried and tested recipes.

Will sit inside some 4" tube with 4x2" reducers on top of my T500 boiler with pot head attached, which I only really use for gin these days.

Sorry to hear about your purgatory on Skye. That must has been just dreadful! ;D At least you got a nice looking gin basket in the end!

What I did today (yesterday now) was finally get to try my Very Silly Still.
Air cooled reflux for new readers..
She is just winding down and may now indeed be stopped.
This was just a play with the results of the Sugar beet wash I recently tried which didn't taste very good, and so I decided to play with it, rather than just run it through the Essencia.
I need to to try this column with my usual Yellow split pea neutral to decide if it is worth sticking with.
Tonights results certainly were worth drinking, much improved neutral.
IMHO the original silly still and Essencia is much less work, I may simply have built a rod for my own back; it may take a while but let's try this column.
I'll try again next week and post in the build section, with a few pics.
A whole run of product above 90% was a novelty, sweet to know that it is possible, if a little bonkers. :)

Well done you.
I have been watching this with interest.
You know I don't like classic water cooled options.
Although a damp column forced air swamp cooler type idea appeals.

Pictures man ... Pictures :)
