stripping runs
Done my first two strip runs yesterday, very quick. Both time including 1 hr warm up took just 2hrs.Thats two 25L washes.
I had detuned my essencia still to run like a pot still.Started cooling water flow through the condenser only at 60 degrees, tossed first 50ml(some dont bother on strip runs)then collected everything all the way down to 30%ABV,where the temp finished at 92 degrees,i averaged 1L every 15minutes.
Will see tonight if i have enough for a spirit run after a bit more dilution, otherwise will put another wash on.
so far so good

All I do with my 25L SS reflux is to take the reflux column collar out of the loop (change pipe config) and make sure that there's only a couple of rashig rings in the bottom of the reflux chamber, that way the condenser doesn't get overwhelmed and just run the water to the condenser.
I then collect to about 95 degree's C - the distillate is usually down to less than 5% ABV by then, takes about 4 hours or so to do a full batch.......

You take it down to 5%abv??doesnt seem worth it.Most people have said to around 20%abv is enough, but well each to their own i guess.I just followed some simple guidelines and works a treat.

On a stripping run I usually carry on until the ABV coming off is about the same as it was in the initial wash, using the pot still calculator as a guide. Amounts to about a third of the total volume. I have no particular reason for this, just seems about right.

Some of the commercial distillers will go down to 1%, apparently. You take it down to 5%abv??doesnt seem worth it.Most people have said to around 20%abv is enough, but well each to their own i guess.I just followed some simple guidelines and works a treat.
In my case it started out as laziness, and it\'s become habit.......
