Postby guest5234 » Sun Sep 09, 2018 11:48 am

I am doing a spirit run on T500 condenser from a several strip runs of cider. What do you guess my percentage of heads hearts and tails would be?

Until someone comes along with better numbers;
I suggest 20+% Fores/heads
And depending where you stop collecting, maybe 30% Tails.
You don't get owt for nowt. :)
Those numbers relate to units in the boiler.
For best results do dilute to sub 30%.

Bit of guess this, I think you should get to about 1.4751 gallons, when you are finished.

I'm not sure just how much a 1/10,000th of a gallon is: my nearest calculation is roughly 16/100ths of a fluid ounce.

Looks like quantum physics here we come.

Well done Mash!

Great!
Thanks Mash. How many litres of malt whisky do you think this brew will produce after twice through the still? :D

Interesting, why dilute to minus 30%

I refer here to diluting the strip to sub 30% for the spirit run .
This is accepted as common practice by commercial distillers and home ones alike.
It seems to be the percentage that allows for the cleanest cuts.

That seems a remarkably tasty recipe you have detailed Mash. If I was an All Grain Brewer I would immediately have tried it out.

This thread seems to have already wandered off centre, so I might observe that the efforts of the all grain brewers I have had the pleasure of knowing, over the years, have produced brews which one can only marvel at. My own first reaction, on sampling such, was that it didn't taste like the popular beers available in Pubs. Gradually learning that that was exactly the intention, was a part of my taste education.

Much the same can be said of one's attempts in producing an all grain whisky. The intention is not to replicate commercially produced whisky but rather to produce the best possible whisky, limited at all times, by ones knowledge, materials, equipment and time.

My own product, whilst tasting unlike any commercial whisky is highly thought of by whisky drinkers of my acquaintance., and not simply because it's free. One would really have to be dim witted to spend an evening drinking an inferior whisky simply because it wasn't costing. Life is really far too short for such mindless frugality.
