WEBVERTS=ADVERTS
I do recall someone bringing up the subject of seeing adverts on this site a while back, and shaking my head, as adblock plus always saves my firefox from seeing them.
Due to laptop problems, I am online today with an aged machine that is resisting working wirh updating services.
I am now seeing this garbage.
If I had to view this advertising rubbish everytime that I was on this site then I simply would not come here.
I have sometimes peeked over the shoulder of friends online and seen the bombardment of adverts that they appear not to notice!
Is this what most people do?
Occupy themselves in dismissing stuff?
Not for me.
Just being a grumpy old git.
Robert.

Twas I dear boy..
I use Firefox and my blocker works ok on the laptop....it's when I use my phone they show. I think your correct, they do dismiss all the crap....turn a blind eye to it all.
The only reason for it is (as you've worked it out yourself) is it helps Jimmy to pay for the site.
Looks like you'll have to follow my footsteps....and buy a new "puter"

Adblock Plus is pretty good at cutting out most of the crap, and works with most browsers.

.For me, these raise a couple of questions.
Icefever said: “The only reason for it is (as you've worked it out yourself) is it helps Jimmy to pay for the site”
Usually,on most sites, any possible remuneration from any adverts is not simply from the appearance of such but also from any linked responses.
1. If this is so. then does it not follow that all attempts to block such adverts are, in effect, personal attempts to block possible revenue sources that enable this site to exist?
2. Aesthetically, and philosophically I am opposed to such adverts but, material reality would indicate that we, as a site, might well exist because of them?

You raise a very good point here Toper.
And my work around to this quandry is to simply pay a voluntary annual subscription.
I have just made my third such, £20, this time.
I then feel justified in blocking ads.
This may seem strange to anyone that feels that the WWW is just out there to be raped for free.
That is not the way that I use it.
When I find a free programme, that suits me, I hit the donate button, and send a few bucks.
If you can afford an internet connection, you can afford to donate.
Anyone else here paying more than £1 a Gigabyte?
Thought not.
That really is the best that I can get.
Robert.

Click "Board Index" you will see the "Donate" button center top of the lists. Click it and go to payment section.
Always give the hardest job to the laziest person because they will always find the easiest way to do it.

I believe that that page gives you the option to donate, without affecting your rating as a master distiller from another cosmos!
For some, the (Jimmy) made up title name is important.
It has always made me smile, to watch peoples self importance affect the way that they react here.
I try to remain humble, and helpful.
And welcome anyone telling me if I am not.
Publicly or privately.
Although I do ask for a little forbearance when I post rambling posts in the early hours, after a drink or three.
Robert.
