Hi Mr Sulphuric Acid & a half
Mine was 0-100 vol £4.00(ish) Goodlife Home brew centre- around £7 with a glass trail jar
You can get more accurate for a few quid more but I tried mine against some calibrated viscosity liquid- its pretty good for £4

Using a spirit Hydrometer is very straight forward, same as using a Hydrometer for fermentation process to check SG. Note temperature will effect the reading.

I got the alcometer but am having a small problem with the delta adjustments which I\'d appreciate any help with.
Using this site:-
http://homedistiller.org/dilute.htm#calc
I took a reading at room temperature of 22C which was 58%. Do I subtract the delta from the reading on the meter itself? I.e. is the true value 58-Delta?
From what I can see the standard temperature for a reading is 60F. Does the (false) reading go up or down with temperature? I only noticed the adjustment bit after I diluted my batch of 83% to a supposed 37% but then noticed the room temperature was 22C. Will it be under or over 37% with the adjustment?
I\'d appreciate a practical example to jog me along. My maths\' really are crap.
Thanks

http://www.countrybrewer.com.au/webcontent47.htm
or the link you posted- its all in there also
There also should be a little instruction manual in the tube you had the Hydrometer in.
with a temperature correction chart in !.
(I have 3 different types, all came with charts/instructions)
Simply add or subtract according to the chart.

Yep got it thanks. This one is reference 70F which isn't far short of room temp' here. First strip of everything (except 20ml heads) came off at 56% which was a tad dissapointing. Sending it through another two times brought it up to 83% which I'm happy with for a first run. Tastes lovely.
Used this:-
1kg Molasses
2.5kg white sugar
1 tbsp Marmite
1 tsp citric acid
200g raisins
8.5l water
5g Youngs dried white champaign yeast
1 tsp Youngs yeast nutrient

If you are after a strong/high alcohol Content type spirit or vodka, just go for
Sugar or dextrose a high alcohol yeast kit and water, out of a 23 litre kit you should get around 5.5 litres of 65% Clean tasting vodka. (You can Run it through a carbon filter if you dilute it to about 55% carbon filtering doesn’t really work after 55%- )
Have a look here for several different yeasts http://www.goodlifehomebrew.com/high-alcohol-yeast.php. But loads about and it’s a UK based site.
Owners name is Paul, very helpful guy, and his prices are good.

Well if I run my Smart still, it gives me between 58 and 62% ABV, which is good enough, but if I then let the spirit down to 40% and run that again, it will give me about 82% - I let it drop down to 80% and leave it running to recover the tails down to about 10% (which goes back into a "stripped" run for redistillation later).....
Quite happy with the 82% ABV......

I always now do my second runs uncut, just run 4ltrs @ 57% after dumping 50mls heads it puts out a fair amount at 87%,I keep going until the parrot is showing 80% this gives me 2ltrs @ 83% then i swap jars and carry on until the parrot shows 25% normally gives me 800mls @ 55-57% tails to save till ive enough to run.
