Re: whisky profile kit
I wasn't to struck on the Jameson recipe so I had a play with the basic Irish recipe. On the 1125ML mix I changed the following.
Whiskey Profile A reduced to 7
Oak Cask reduced to 4
Fruity Esters added 3
Peat added 3
Carob added 2
The result was quite a pleasant drink but wouldn't like to try and equate it to a known brand.

Re: whisky profile kit
I have not used the Jameson recipe from the profile kit. I recollect someone saying it was crap. There is a post somewhere on the forum to that effect. I have found it better after trying a few recipes to do my own thing with the flavourings. I just play around with them and get some good results. B is used most of all followed by C,then A while D is rarely used the same applies to some other flavours so as I say I just experiment. Look in H Distillers you may get a Jameson or near thing there or search the net to find out what they put in it.I put bourbon chips into all recipes. I also cut up white Oak that I got from my brother and use that now. Plus, I have toasted some and soaked some in sherry for use. I dont know about others but I am finding out that I am naturally progressing down the original route and give the turbos a body swerve at least for the time being. I am not trying to make a copy of one brand but looking to make in the end something I like, others like and I can call my own. Happy Stilling

Re: whisky profile kit
Just purchased the profile kit....read somewhere that the recipes suggested dose of glycerine maybe on the high side after making a clone it does taste a bit too sweet and lacking bite....any one else found this to be the case.Maybe gonna half the suggested dose.Your views or thoughts please.
Thanks in advance

Re: whisky profile kit
My experience of all the recipes tried from the profile kit, plus all my own attempts at mixes, came up with a few OK tastes, but all lacked any sense of "nose",such as experienced from a true Scotch whisky, single malt or blend.
And yes,"the bite" was also not there.
So,a general lack of whisky, just alcohol.
These days I mess with all grain and LME to try and find an acceptable whisky,if I find it I'll share,I hope you will do the same!

Re: whisky profile kit
Using a higher ABV base, or adding a touch of heads, will give it more bite. I find that I now prefer 50% ABV as 40% ABV without the bite of heads in most commercial products tastes too weak for me (I usually drink it neat or with a bit of water or ice). I think the only way to get the nose is to age it on wood. There is just no substitute.

I'll second that. we can come close but I've yet to hear of or use anything which completely mimics actual ageing on Oak...but close is nice too
