The vent is like a Louvre shape so I think I can tap it down then use a sealant to finish the job

To my knowledge HA6 is available in Black, white and Transparent.
I favour the black, but suspect/expect the other colours to work just the same.
It has My vote.

Grey does match nicely with stainless. And can make tatty welding look fantastic.

I would not best it flat.
Tape over the top, apply sealant underneath. Once it has set remove the tape.
Better glue line, better seal, prettier and removable if you suddenly need to make gallons of tea ;D

For some, not always obvious reasons, most sealants seem to work better at a thickness between 1-3 mm.
Owning a boat I have learned this the hard way.

I use Citric power to clean mine...

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bucket-Citri ... cM9DZX0bWg

I have a plastic crate/trunk the sort you see in ££ shops. It's about 2'6" long fill with hot water to cover the section, throw in a couple of tablespoons of citric and lay it in. You'll see it start to clean in mins, literally....you can watch it start to shine.

By the looks of that column, she must be near on 5' tall??? you could make a trough out of plastic sheet deep enough to cover the pipe...it doesn't take long, rinse off with cold water. Bobs your uncle. ;) :D

I’ve got some citric acid but I haven’t got a container big enough for them yet.
The column is a total of 1.5 meters but I’ll only use the full height when making neutral, which won’t be often.

Can you not demount a piece of guttering to soak the beast?
I wish that I had the headroom for one that big!...

Some useful information on this thread, which helped me with my repurposed boiler.

I know that one.
The BM is a cracking tool, I don't think I would still be making beer without it.
