freeze strip ideas

Post by chuck » Sun Jun 02, 2019 11:20 am

after any ideas for this method i am going to try

as mash gave me an idea about freeze stripping to save some time. i have decided to try freeze about 5/6 2ltr pop bottles of wash as i havnt room for a whole fv or chest freezer.

when draining i have thought about a 2 bucket method 1 on top of the other with top 1 having holes in so the wash drips into collection bucket.

open to ideas about the best method to drain the frozen bottles

cheers

When I was doing it, I turned the bottles upside down over gallon size pickle jars. Worked out great for me.

Chuck.

Don't know how much will come out but check out local chippies for their old pickle jars.

They usually give them away or ask for a small charitable donation and are ideal for the purpose. I've got a load of them and use em all the time. At the moment I've got 3 filled with stripped wash and four just filled with neutral and raspberries. They hold just over 2 litres each.

I tend to go by color. With apple ferment, I stop melting when the remainder is just light tan colored ice.

I get 12 out of 23l, but it will of course vary on concentration. So aim for 50%? Just over a 1L would give you a safety margin.

It can take some serious cleaning to get vinegar taint from a pickle jar, I know.

Truck wash (TFR) or caustic is alkaline. That should do it.

I just ran them through a full cycle in the dishwasher, and had no issues.
