EZ Filter Retrofit

Post by billythekid »

I think I may have found a cheap and easy way to retrofit the Still Spirits EZ filter system to use stone carbon. All hardware is 304 stainless. It's a little fiddley, getting the eye bolt through all of the components. I put some plain water into the container and use a wrench to tighten the nut on the bottom to adjust the flow. Once that's done, I empty out the water and begin to filter diluted spirits.

Is it not quicker/easier to make the filter something like in Gert Strands carbon filter e-book?

Cos surely loose carbon granules have got to be cheaper (and likely easier)?

I intend to put granulated stone carbon into the funnel. The pipe she writes about is indeed easy to make, and perhaps cheaper than the EZ system? When I purchased my T500, I did so in a kit that had their filtration system included. So, in my case, a stainless kitchen funnel to retrofit the system is cheap and easy for me.

Granulated stone Carbon is new to me, how can stone be carbonised?, Catalytic carbon I have heard of.
I do believe Gert Strand is male.
Nothing wrong with building your own filter.

I don't know, but over here, that's what it's called.

From what I can make out, it looks like the small extruded "pellets" (which is what I use) but it could just be tiny little "granules".

Think some may have been unsure because a number of commercial makers produce the newer style of filter system that uses a compressed "disc" of carbon that is more stone-like in appearance.

Ergo, 1 language, 2 or 3 nations using it slightly differently.......
