Paul at BrewGenie had them on his shelves when I visited earlier this week,£12 I think.

I do occasionally buy the SS Classic Tennessee Bourbon.

We all like a new toy to play with...,.,

Oh OK. As so many of you have asked, I will pick one up this weekend and review it (make it, drink it). It will make a few Christmas bottles for my friends. At the worst I can swop it for tonic water.

A bit advanced for me.
Have you tried turning it off and back on again?

I picked one up earlier today from Brew Genie. £12.75, a complete 'bastardisation' of the normal process I know, but we all like to play.

Having bought it, I will make it!

Very simple instructions and pictures, you can find them online. I noted that the initial preparations take 5 minutes, than you wait from 5 -15 days tasting as time developed the flavour. I thought OK ready by Christmas, 3.5litres, 5 bottles, good presents.

I tasted after day 1. Very pleasant, left me wanting more. Obviously flavour and colour develop as time proceeds. I foresee there will not be 3.5 litres after 2 weeks.

I have already decided I will buy/request from Santa a few more of these kits.

If you might enjoy this little foible please feel free to play. Last picture includes what will be 2 x 750ml bottles of green gooseberry Gin. Very very yummy. Great whisked up in yogurt or porridge.

Good to read that someone has tried this.

I'm not sure whether to bother or not, because I find my preference is more "Tennessee Sour Mash" than "Kentucky Bourbon".

The SS Tennessee Whiskey isn't far off JD no7 so I'm happy with that (plus my visits to the US have all been coastal, so not anywhere that I could try different Bourbons). I'm less of a fan of the Kentucky version, having managed to find a few here.

Even with Scotch, I can't abide blended and the few that I've enjoyed have been single malts.

Hence, while the kit is cheap (relatively), I'm wondering what benefit I might get. I suppose I'll have to get one to try........

Well, I have been tasting it every couple of days. I could taste how it was developing, I thought for me, my taste, I would stop it now. It would I think become bitter....?

So I poured through a lint free cloth and bottled. Very nice, a surprisingly deep flavour, some sweetness but not too much. Good on its own, a bit addictive as a sipping dram with an ice cube and plenty of flavour in coke too. Caramel, molasses, vanilla, wood (not smoked). I like it.

It is clear, no cloudiness. Very easy to produce. I will taste it again in a week or so. Total cost including my spirit app £5 a bottle. A few will become presents. A nice toy to play with, quick result. I may buy another.

What can I do with the wood chips???

I know other members have done this Kit, so easy. Anyone found any interesting developments to modify it?

....Moss you should try it, very easy just make a sugar wash, something to put in your coke....

So the kit is wood chips?
If the creek it were corn liquor and I's a large mouth bass, I'd drink that sucker dry and tell the trout to kiss my ass

Being old enough to not knock something I haven't tried, I must admit I giggled a bit on seeing the word "Reserve" for something "aged" for a month. :D

Are you using Bourbon flavoured essence with this? Surely putting woodchips in neutral would not make a bourbon in one month.

This kit includes a uniquely crafted bourbon flavouring, oak chips, glycerine, and bottle labels. Simply combine with 3.5 L of neutral spirit or vodka and age to your preference using the authentic bourbon barrel oak chips.

Simples :D

Cheers mate, I thought there must have been a flavouring added. 👍🏻
