ive run my T500 quite a lot with kale washes mainly ,strip using a vino_tinto pot head still made by a very kind member from the old forum.
i then use a copper T500 to run the sprit run. i run this at 50c and let it run until its just a slow drip then stop, now whether i would get into tails if i carried on or not i dont know but there are no tails that i can detect up until this point.just my findings over the last few years....
sometimes i will run another 3rd spirit run and that is fantastic no need for any filtering ect . ;)

You will have to forgive me here if it seems that I am taking this off topic.
Last night I ran a spirit run through my reflux column, and after a lengthy equalisation, began a slow take off.
I started late and at midnight + 30" I was struggling to stay awake at around 68% of product.
I started tapping a message here about my woes, and fell asleep.
I awoke at 3am, the still was not dripping that I could see, the overflow vessel had coped with the overflow.
I left it airing through the day, and this evening my mistake measured 2 litres at 42%.
It does not smell at all bad.
I am calling it 'Tails' and will run it through the Airstill, I expect to claim half of it as hearts at least.
Just sayin'.

As others have stated, with some stills, tails seem to remain shy creatures, that prefer to live in the boiler until you up the heat and evict them.
Something I have noticed with my 25 litre runs in a bigger still; with an airstiil they seem to tumble out on cue.
I'm guessing size and balance come into play here, myles would probablyy have a better thesis to explain this.
I have been distilling for years, and still don't know very much!
Not ashamed to admit it - everyday is a learning day.

We all get to know the little quirks and habits of our stills
I know when my tails is starting on the T500 column and
that is when the output temp drops then starts to rise, aided
by my calculation on product volume.

I think that you hit it on the head here,
We will all get different results,Type of still dependant.
Ball park figures are computable/comparable.
Experience of your own still being of paramount importance.

Ok guys a little trial. It says in the T500 manual(sorry ED) that it will
stop producing when there is nothing left to produce, cant argue.
No tails??
Last run 25ltrs at 38% so about 11ltrs to come??
results;-
.6ltr Fores
2 ltrs Heads
5 ltrs Hearts
1ltr Tails This jar had the Simpsons (cardboard soggy not nice smell).
Also steady flow turned to a drip which got slower as jar filled.
8.6 ltrs collected at shut down!!!

Thats interesting who has nicked the other 2 ltrs of alcohol in my wash??
Come on where is it, was it you Mash???
Cause not it was hiding in the boiler. Next morning all cooled down well
30c took a reading on the Dunder or as you grain boys say backset. 13%
so there it was hiding in the boiler??
NO Tails HaHaHa !!!

Maybe a T500 is part human and can smell Tails Mash.
And I know someone of my intellect should not read books
as the meaning blurrs with the level of attention, but these
so called Instructional books are to teach you how to use
the Force!! Is this not the way our Mash, has ED got it all a
cocked up??? Or has our great leader, Richard from Love
Brewing got a forked tongue, in which case he can Fork Off!!!
I am sorry and promise I will never read this shit again.
Its amazing what 14 days with the wife and noone else to
talk to does to my brain, what will I be like after 60 or 70?? :( :x :?:

Struggling a little to read what you are expressing gaza..
I believe that your still slowed down and left alcohol in the boiler?
As I reported?

Yes for sure, patience is in short supply atm.I switched off after about
6.5 hours to prevent terminal boredom, and the Simpsons had finished.
