Advocaat

Post by Easydrinker »

For anyone with chucks and a glut of eggs, get busy with this.

Advocaat
10 egg yolks
2 tsp. Vanilla extract
250 g. (1 cup) sugar
500 ml. (2 cups) brandy or gin 40%abv or just about anything @ 40%
250 ml. (1 cup) water

Blitz the egg yolks and sugar (I use half this amount of sugar) and Vanilla extract with a hand blender.
Add the water and alcohol, blitz again.
Drink and enjoy.
It will last as long as you can resist it.In or out of the fridge.
Mine doesn't last long.

You will be left with 10 egg whites.
You could be health and weight concious and make egg white omlettes, I hear you barfing! :(
You could add sugar and make meringue nests and serve them filled with Advocaat! :D

You could make meringues in the microwave oven, crunch them up and add as sprinkles on top.

With a bit of food colouring the world could be your oyster......

I am bumping this, to add a remark on longevity of product.
I know that I have not made it during the last four years.
1. Because I find it hard to resist.
2. It does contain a fair few of those evil calories.

My fridge, (freezer, shed, car boot, tool room) needs sorting.
There has been a bottle of this nestling there, in the fridge, through the power cuts we sometimes endure here, for years now.
Tonight I broached the bottle.
Mythical Ambrosia would lose in an arm wrestling competion against it.

OK, it has thickened, to the consistency of thick custard.
Fortunately it was in a re-used Passata bottle, and I could coax the first out with a teaspoon.

In an effort to convey to you how good it tastes, I have just forced myself to pour another, yes, it does now pour, like double cream.
Oh, it is good!
The taste has taken me back to the days that I stepped out with a certain young lady, to a certain pub, where she drank "Snowballs", and when she had finished her drink, I would wipe a finger around the inside of the glass, and suck said finger.
Ask no questions, because I have now been for a third helping, and my tongue may be loose. :)

If I don't get online tomorrow, you may know the reason, 4 year old eggs.
If I do, spoil yourself, or even someone special, plenty of time to make this for the 14th! ;)

Years ago (on the old site) I mentioned this.

Well it didna kill me, and no known ill effects.
@ Mash, it seems that one way to thicken the advocaat is time.
Now,does it thicken quicker in or out of the fridge?
I feel a trial coming on. :)

And bonus points for digging out the old thread when the 'search' function doesn't work in the arhive.

I have just revisited the same bottle, sitting here spooning it out of a glass.
If you could eat an orgasm, it would taste like this. :D
