Apple 🍏 Jack Daniels

Post by Mash »

I tried this at the weekend.

Very sweet with a pronounced artificial (but pleasant) apple tang but very little bourbon flavours. The mouthfeel is very thick and liqueur-esk.

I can see why it is popular and if you want to clone, try this..

Nuked JD, with a lot of sugar (start @ 100g in 70cl) Use an apple flavouring with 1/2 tsp of glycerine.
To Gin-finity and beyond !

Mash, you gave me an idea. I tried the two apple spiced neutral recipes that were doing the rounds at xmas. I could not stand the one made with apple juice, but the one made from red and green apples, cinnamon stick and in my case a couple of ounces of raisins was palatable but as I made 4 ltrs it is going down very slowly. I have 16ltrs of Odin's rye whiskey sat in a corney keg on a couple of oak barrel staves. Tried some today and it was very nice neat. Mixed 50:50 with the apple spiced neutral, even better. There is sweetness from the apples and the raisins so no sugar was added. I will see if glycerine adds anything to the party.

Possibly tastes nothing like Apple Jack Daniels!

haven't bothered with their apple offerings, because when I tried the honey version it was just like a sweet tasting liqueur and nothing like the original JD.

The fact that they use JD branding just means they can get away with charging more for a mediocre liqueur product IMO......

Ah, well some like the flavour rather than something that tastes like it's made as a "training" drink ;) :D
