Pressure barrel

Post by Jennysgin »

So, my friend has just dropped off a pressure barrel and some demijohns as her parents are clearing their house before they move! :D
I've never used a pressure barrel before so any suggestions what to try?! :geek:

You can never have enough demi's and the barrel can always be used as a fermenter.

Suited for beer, if you like beer just get a kit to get started, about 12 quid will get you going.
Or fill it with Gin, come home from work and pour yourself a pint of room temp Gin, wonderful.
I'm not as think as you drunk I am...

Find yourself a cheap beer or cider kit to press gang it into service.
See how you like it.
One of these and a fermenter kept me entertained and sometimes drunk, in the past.

I have given up making things I don't want to drink.

They just hang around. If you buy a beer kit and they are some really good ones now, expect to drink it quite quickly.

Pressure vessels will also despense wine very well, but you wine need a gas adaptor.

I'd forgotten about kits! :open_mouth: There's so much chat around doing it properly!
I'll maybe try a wee cider first, thanks folks :)

I'm really pleased with the demis too, I'd been keeping an eye out for more for a while :+1:

Try this lot Jenny https://www.lovebrewing.co.uk/beer/kits ... ry-series/
I just love the American Pale Ale or Cider https://www.lovebrewing.co.uk/cider/cid ... -superior/
Think I have made all that lot. I love them all simple to make and great.
Not the cheapest but you get what you pay for.

Try a "turbo cider" rather than a kit - it normally works out cheaper!!

Store bought apple juice - from concentrate is fine as long as there are no preservatives.

Decide your ABV of choice, calculate the sugar in the apple juice,. add granulated sugar for your abv, heat to 25 degrees pour in fermenter, pitch yeast. Wait a couple of weeks. Job done.

Forgot to say Jen, those big topped barrels can take some screwing down, and be even harder to unscrew.
Your local HBS can probably sell you a flimsy plastic spanner for around £8.
You may need the assistance of a friend.
Barrel wrestling should be a recognised sport!
