But that is the thing with humour, it gets you or it doesn't. :)
And the best of it is timeless.

But is it?

Maybe it's generational? Because after a while, it seems to become cliché.........

I still encounter kids of university age that can recite Monty Python sketches better than myself.

Generalisations are not really valid.
I never found 'The Goon show' funny, but loved 'I'm Sorry, I haven't a clue.'
No 'One size fits all'.
Simples.
If you don't find something funny, switch it off, or your attitude to it.
Don't rail against people that chuckle when you don't.
To my mind, unless such humour is based upon, or hiding some phobia, or is blatantly in poor taste, you have no right to belittle it.
Soap box away, I am off for a chuckle.

I'm not sure there are any comedy shows from the seventies that they could show without offending swathes of people - benny hill also comes to mind. :) :) :)

So much mainstream humour from then is now widely considered offensive.
Is it strange that the humour that ages well is not discriminatory?
'New Wave' humour, which followed in the 80's, Ben Elton and the like, may not all have been hilarious, but remains watchable, without cringing at audience laughter.
Just my thoughts.

These days Frankie can be offensive, but his target is stupid people and politicians.
I'm sorry, I have no sympathy or empathy for those.

Robert.

Edit; He includes the odd Royal or celebrity, no sympathy there either.
