Newbie saying Hi All

Post by Insyncjoe »

Hi All,

Just joined this site, have been wine brewing for a while but have started with the still and have the bug now.

Have made my first wash not long ago and carbon filtered my 40% spirit to play with, Gin is what the boss likes.

Joe :)

Welcome, Wilkommen, Bien venue, Siw Mae, orlrite 😆😆😆👍

Some do quality neutral and essence flavours like me, others go for clones of the real maccoy........

Plenty of knowledge etc and generally happy to help™ 😁

We have Gins coming out of our ears!
Rums also.
The way for a newbie to grab my attention is something like..
'Hi, I'm new here and want to make Scotch whisky'.
Just jesting, but others here know more about the other spirits than myself.
Whatever your tipple, someone here will try and help.
Be prepared for a roller coaster journey.

Welcome and I like Gin too, managed some good ones.
My key is, clean neutral from my Bokabob reflux still and then make small quantities in my Air Still using a Sputnik (Sputnik = A sieve on legs to hold the botanicals) So far I have had some very good results.
viewtopic.php?f=18&t=87&hilit=sputnik&s ... bb972ec90a

Have a look at the Almost Gordons Gin in the recipe section. it will give you a good starting point.

You didnt mention what sort of still you have.
Dont rush your washes, avoid Turbo yeasts, go for quality not quantity or speed. You will get a better result.
DONT be afraid to ask daft questions, we all had to start somewhere!
DONT TELL other people (those not on here) what you are doing, and DON'T sell, these are both a BIG No-No.

Oh and share any good recipes that you turn out.

Especially don’t sell - believe me the five-oh do not like it. Not even a little bit!
Have you tried turning it off and back on again?

If it’s broken, it might be my fault, is my responsibility and there is even a slight chance I can fix it 😳

Hello Joe, read up on whatever you're into but don't be scared to ask if something doesn't make sense. The lads and lasses here are forthcoming and won't shout at you. Enjoy the ride, and start collecting jars you'll need more than you think you do :D , cheers Bob

Someone, hereabouts has a recipe for just about anything that you can name.
I haven't tried them all, so can't make recomendations.
Some are good, even bad ones can go through the process again.
Win,win!
